Upright bass humidity

Keep your bass standing at adequate moisture is very important. Seasonal variations (that they travel or change of seasons) can really wreak havoc on a bass. There are at least 2 important factors when it comes to moisture (or lack thereof): The overall level of drought and sudden changes from wet to dry or very dry to wet. Keep your bass in the report parameters drought, helping to maintain the high super low humidity or changes less traumatic. (For example, in winter, with cold and hot do not keep your bass in too moist an environment. (In winter, too wet is greater than 50% because). Keeping the Bass had a moisture higher would normally be fine, but when it comes out (in a drying room many, too low will get a "shock" of drought sudden. Stay Within certain parameters, 40-50% is perfect. Even 55% would be ok depending on where you go to. Some moisture levels in the rooms (in winter) may go down in adolescence.

Here are some simple ways to protect low in the winter:

1) If you can keep your bass in a special room with a humidifier, that's great. Just remember not to go too high.

2) Use Dampits. These are the type humidifiers green sponge that are hung inside the upright bass f-hole. A small word about these: it is my personal favorite. I use 4 Dampits. Using 4 will help me keep trying to saturate the help of the normal 2. You do not want not to drip forever in your upright bass! I squeeze the excess water before putting in the bass and when I do not play, I keep my cover on bass. This helps keep moisture from escaping. I notice that even when the bass is not super dry, the wood vibrates so much better. Also, if you live in an area where water is hard, it is advisable to wipe the tops of Dampits that affect toward the low so they will not leave a watermark. I noticed some imitations DAMPIT new lately that does not hold the same amount of water and tend to sink too easily. (Get only the brand DAMPIT.)

3) I also heard another idea (in winter) for those who live in small apartments that suffer from overly dry. simply splashing water droplets on the carpet or rug can contribute significantly to raising moisture. It is not practical to have to do every day. One of my Japanese friends upright bass player has a very small apartment Tokyo, and when it starts to become static shocks and the bass is super dry, he sprays water all over the carpet. (Call it a low Blessing!) Haaa! But it actually works!

4) Are you in college or do you keep your bass in a locker? Keep a bucket in the corner with a towel cut on the top edge inside the bucket. This acts as a wick and humidify the enclosure Locker (I still love my Dampits though!)

The best way to control humidity and least expensive is a good digital template can be found at the cabin near Radio. For $ 30 you can post if your bass is normally stored. Do not trust those silly little color coded cards with Dampits.

If you live in a region of the country that has Super humid summers and cold, dry winters, you may want to consider having 2 sound messages. Sometimes, these positions can really vary in length. This will make you happy (like your bass sound better if the position is not too short or too long and keep your bass cracks soundpost unnecessary. (you can occasionally see the abandoned channels closer to the button on the side of the post-production sound upward sloping top or side chain EF-Hole pointing inwards a little. Time for this item checked. When I lived near Chicago, I learned a lot of bass players there was one winter and one summer.

You notice that once you become more aware of your surroundings and moisture levels, you'll be better able to control or to create better conditions for your bass. just watch change string height, or how a bass note is response (change) could be enough to make you aware of your position becomes too tight. carved standing bass will sound best if the wood has some moisture in the wood and will be much less susceptible to cracking.
