History

The Fell Pony gets its name, has fallen from the Norse word meaning hill. " During the four centuries of occupation Roman at the border between England and Scotland, extra troops – French, Dutch, German, Polish, Spanish and Eastern European riders – were mobilized to protect Hadrian's Wall which separated the countries and to maintain law and order. After the Romans withdrew there were not many roads until the 18th century. Fell ponies were used to transport goods across the country. That the canals, roads and train lines were developed in the 18th and 19th centuries, other forms of transport developed and Fell ponies were used for light agricultural work, carrying mail, sports events, shepherd and / or accounting products to market by cart.

Size and with characteristics

The average of 13.1 to 13.2 hands high pony, the maximum height allowed for a Fell pony is 14 hands. " Fells come black, brown, bay and gray.
